Electric Vehicle Fact Sheets.

Charging for Electric Vehicles (EVs), will become the next value added service for a company. For accommodation having EV charging will be the same as providing free internet, Foxtel and a gym. For shopping centres it will be as essential a service as providing parking. Below are the fact sheets I’ve developed with the help of the EV community, to make information about what is required to have EV charging easily accessible.

What is an EV Charging Station?

Charging stations come in 3 categories: Level 1, 2 and 3. As the level of the charger increases so does the rate of charge it can deliver to the vehicle. Level 1 is the lowest level, developed for the US and Japan, level 1 is based on 120 volts, and is not used in Australia. Level 2 charging can be single or three phase and support up to 80 amps. These can be powered by regular household 240 volt outlets or dedicated installations depending on the amperage that can be supplied. The charger is located on board the car and all the external equipment adds is a safety system. Level 3 chargers supply electric vehicles with DC power, bypassing the vehicles inbuilt charger, these chargers provide the fastest charge possible to an electric vehicle. Level 3 chargers are required to make long distance travel viable in Australia.
